The 1991 Mazda 787B won Le Mans driven by Bertrand Gachot, Johnny Herbert and Volker Weidler and completed over 4900km at an average speed of 205km/h. The Mazda 787B is the only car powered by a Wankel rotary engine to have won the classic race. Mazda is also the only car maker to have persisted with the use of rotary engines in a production car.
