Ferrari winner GTE Pro class
22nd - 23rd June
INTRODUCTION
The 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 was expected to be an exciting race the Audis were in close competition with the Toyotas.
But from the off, crashes occured and the winner was the Safety car which drove more laps in the race than the entered cars.
Audis won and finished 1-3 & 5th. Toyota were 2nd and 4th.
SUMMARY :
With variable weather the race was run for several hours under safety car one following a fatal crash just 10 minutes into the race. With 11 periods of safety car it was not really a race.
The constant rain and safety car periods helped the Toyotas as they could get the heat into their tyres much quicker than Audi - a couple of time during the bits of actual racing the better Toyota lead because their car could go an extra lap before refuling. Porsche beat the Aston Martin in the GT Pro class. The LMP2 class was won by 7th place overall Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan. Finally the GT Am class was won by an IMSA Porsche.
The Audis won but the Toyota did not discrace itself coming in second. A better showing than expected after its poor reliability recently at Spa. The obvious note of interest is Kristensen winning for a nineth time and McNish being in the winning car for the 3rd time.
The truly un-interesting result - it was scewed by pace car.
