Cobb lived,his life largely in the shadow of Campbell and Parry-Thomas. He finally claimed the world land speed record in 1938 driving at 350 mph in a twin-engined Lion Napier Car at Bonneville Salt Flats; After the war he increased his record speed to 394 mph Cobb was killed trying to break the water speed record at Loch Ness in 1952.
