1968 Ferrari for Can Am
ALTHOUGH this new Ferrari was not built in time to contest the entire programme of the CanAm series this year, there can be little doubt that it is a feeler for next year, when there should be 12 races spread over the season. And perhaps the 2,000,000 dollars in prize money acted in the way of an incentive to the Prancing Horse Stable.

These photographs were taken at Monza, when Chris Amon was testing the car on its first outing, still with its bare, unpainted body panels.

With the sudden change in the FIA ruling governing Sports and Prototype racing, Ferrari have concentrated on the development of their 3 litre Grand Prix engine. But with the CanAm car, it is obvious that they have not forgotten about large displacement engines, for this new one, at 6.2 litres, is the largest ever to come from the Maranello factory. Its design and development could well serve two purposes and it would be no surprise to find it in a future production car.

With its engine having several very features the appearance of this mighty new contender has injected a fresti interest in the CanAm races-but then anything new from Ferrari does that.
